Travis Satterfield, his wife, Nancy, and their family grow soybeans and rice in Bolivar County.

In 2022, Mississippi soybeans had a production value of more than $1.8 billion, contributing a substantial amount of revenue to the state’s economy. That revenue was generated by the 3,087 soybean farms in Mississippi that produced more than 120 million bushels of soybeans, including Satterfield Farms.

Satterfield has been farming on his slice of heaven since 1969, after taking over his family’s farm operation from his father.

“I left a pretty good job and a lot of security when I took over,” Satterfield says. “When I came back, we had three years of fairly tough weather conditions. It was hard, but Nancy and I decided to stay because we knew this was where we wanted to live and raise our family.”

The Satterfields are proud to be a farm family of Mississippi and active members of the Mississippi
Farm Bureau Federation.

Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation and other Mississippi agriculture industry stakeholders launched Farm Families of Mississippi in 2010 to promote the importance of agriculture to the public. The program uses multiple forms of advertising each year to educate those who are not actively engaged in farming.
